    Shurley English 6 for August 30th

    We had a great first day on Friday! I enjoyed seeing “old” faces and meeting “new” ones.  The homework assignment for Chapter 1 is fairly light, because there is neither a test nor writing assignment. Also, there are no practice sentences this week! For this week complete vocabulary using the method I taught you in class.  Refer to Reference #2 if you have forgotten.  Make sure to keep all your vocabulary in one place in your notebook. There is a workbook exercise (Ch. 1, Lesson 5, Practice) to complete. I do not require the journal entries, but your parents might, or you just might want to keep a journal yourself. …

    Welcome to Shurley English 6! I look forward to studying grammar and composition with you this year. Please complete Lessons 1 & 2 of Chapter 1 this week. Be prepared to share at least one of your long term goals and the short term goals that will help you achieve it.

    For Composition, do all of Lesson 10 except the final draft. There will be a FOD’s quiz on the first  five FOD’s:  anemographia, dendrographia, ethopoeia, astrothesia, chorographia. I will give an example of each, and you will correctly label them.

    Complete chapter 28 in Shurley English. Study lessons 1-3, but no written practices are due except for vocabulary list 2. Take chapter 28 test. For composition: Begin lesson 9, “The Thirsty Pigeon.” Complete the Three Plot Components, Variation: Part I, and Outline.

    Shurley English 6 for April 12th

    Apparently, my brain is already on summer vacation! I’m sorry that I’m posting your assignments so late!  Study Chapter 27, but your only written assignment for this chapter is the vocabulary and the test. For composition, finish Lesson 8, “The Dove and the Ant,” paraphrases and final draft. Also, there will be a matching quiz on ALL Figures of Description (FOD’s) in Lessons 1-8 on Friday. You all are doing great; finish well!

    Shurley English 6 for March 29th

    This week, complete Chapter 25, Lessons 1-4. The thank-you note in Lesson 1 is extra credit, but it must actually be mailed.  If you chose to do this, please have your parents either text, email, or send me a note to class that you did this.  It is worth 5 extra credit points. For composition, complete Lesson 7, “The Bear and the Two Travelers.”  Include at least two of the FODs from this lesson. Be prepared to turn in your final draft in class Friday.

    Shurley English 6 for March 22nd

    This week complete Lesson 24 in Shurley English 6.  You do need to study/know References 71-73, but you do not have to do any assignments associated with them writing business letters. We will review this in class this Friday. For composition we started Lesson 7, “The Bear and the Two Travelers.” Complete the Three Plot Components, Variations Part 1, and Variations Part 2.  We will start on the Outline and Paraphrases in class this Friday.
