pre-algebra due on 2/28

Hello all,
Quiz this Friday on the rules for adding/subtracting, multiplying and dividing signed numbers.
Test on Chapter 2 on March 3.

Below are the rules you should be able to write. You do not have to give me examples.
1)When adding/subtracting and the signs on the numbers are the SAME – you add and use the sign of the numbers used in the problem
Ex. 7+3.5= 10.5
Ex. -5 + -8 = -13
Ex. -18-12 = -30
Ex. 14.5+17.2 = 31.7

2)When adding /subtracting and the signs are DIFFERENT – you subtract the numbers and use the sign of the largest number in the answer
Ex. 9 -5 = 4
EX. -12 + 3 = -9
Ex. 14 – 12 = 2
Ex. -16 + 26 = 10
EX. -30 – (-49) = -30 + 49 = 19

3)When multiplying/dividing signed numbers, and the signs are the same, you will always have a positive answer.

4)When multiplying/dividing signed numbers and the signs are different, you will
always have a negative answer.
