WELCOME TO BIOLOGY

April 30- May 11

This is our final post of this school year!! I hear you cheering. Finish Module 15 this week and be prepared to turn everything in May 4. Any outstanding work may be turned in for credit at this time. Be prepared for your lab final this Friday, May 4. The following will be on the lab portion of your final: Punnett Square (refer to Module 8 test); describe in detail one of the following: water cycle, oxygen cycle, carbon dioxide cycle, nitrogen cycle; structures of the earthworm (see Module test 11) structures of the crayfish (see Module test 12); structures of the perch (see Module test 13); leaf (see module 14 SGQ # 4, SGQ # 5 a,b,c, SGQ # 13; structure of the flower (see Module test 15).

******ATTENTION******** I will have a study session at my home on Monday, May 7 at 7:00-8:15 for those who would like to come study for the final test which will be given in class May 11. I handed out a study sheet for the final. Questions will come from the information on that study guide. If you have any questions on either the lab final or the main final please don’t hesitate to call. Lets finish strong!!!!

APRIL 23-27

I SEE THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. STAY STRONG. FINISH MODULE 15 THIS WEEK. I WILL HAND OUT MODULE 15 TEST IN CLASS. ALL OF MODULE 15 IS DUE MAY 4. THIS WEEK IN CLASS WE WILL DISSECT MONOCOT AND DICOT SEEDS AND FLOWERS. WE WILL DO OUR LAB REPORT IN CLASS. MAY 4 WE WILL HAVE OUR LAB FINAL, MAY 11 WE WILL HAVE A FINAL ON MODULES 8-16. LORD WILLING I WILL HAVE A STUDY SHEET FOR YOU TO BEGIN STUDYING FOR YOUR FINAL. IF YOU WOULD LIKE WE CAN HAVE A STUDY NIGHT MAY 7 AT MY HOUSE FOR ANY OF YOU THAT WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND. HAVE A GREAT WEEK. CALL OR TEXT IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

APRIL 16-20

ALL OF MODULE 14 IS DUE THIS WEEK. TAKE MODULE 14 TEST. TURN IN LAB AND LEAF COLLECTION THIS FRIDAY. BEGIN MODULE 15 THIS WEEK: READ PAGES 463-476; OYO 465, 466, 469, 471,473,475; SGQ 2-18; DEFINITIONS A-H; SUMMARY 1-8. YOU WILL HAVE A QUIZ THIS WEEK. IT WILL COME FROM THE ABOVE ASSIGNMENT, IT WILL BE OPEN BOOK. TEXT OR CALL IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

APRIL 9-13
COMPLETE THE REST OF MODULE 14 THIS WEEK. CONTINUE WORKING ON ON YOUR LEAF COLLECTION. IT WILL BE DUE APRIL 20, SEE APRIL 2-6 FOR DETAILS OF ASSIGNMENT. NO QUIZ THIS WEEK. I WILL HAND OUT MODULE 14 TEST IN CLASS TO BE TAKEN AT HOME.

April 2-6

Take Module 12/13 test this week. All of Module 13 is due this week, as well as perch dissection lab report.
Begin Module 14 this week. Read pg. 429-444; OYO 431,435,438,442; SGQ 2-14; Definitions A-I; Module Summary 1-9.
Leaf Collection and Identification Due April 20. Begin collecting 10 leaves from trees in your area. Each leaf needs to have the following information:
-Leaf mosaic: alternate,opposite, or whorled
-Shape of leaf: deltoid, linear, elliptical, oval, cordate, lobed, cleft, orbicular, needlelike, or scalelike
-Venation of the leaf: parallel, pinnate, palmate
-Leaf margins: entire, undulate, serrate, crenate, or dentate
-Identification of the tree

MARCH 26-30

FINISH MODULE 13 THIS WEEK. WE WILL HAVE A QUIZ IN CLASS FRIDAY, IT WILL BE OPEN NOTES. ALSO, MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR LAB REPORT FOR THE PERCH DISSECTION. I WILL HAND OUT MODULE 12/13 TEST IN CLASS FRIDAY. MODULE 13 WILL BE DUE APRIL 6.

MARCH 19-23

ALL OF MODULE 12 IS DUE THIS WEEK. THERE WILL NOT BE A TEST WITH MODULE 12, I WILL COMBINE IT WITH MODULE 13. MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR CRAYFISH DISSECTION LAB REPORT. BEGIN MODULE 13 THIS WEEK: READ PG. 393-408; OYO 402,404,408; SGQ 2-12; DEFINITIONS A-M; MODULE SUMMARY 1-6. WE WILL DO THE PERCH DISSECTION THIS WEEK!! THIS IS A SMALL CHANGE IN THE SYLLABUS. MAKE SURE YOU READ THROUGH THIS EXPERIMENT. THERE WILL NOT BE A QUIZ.

MARCH 5-9

COMPLETE ALL OF MODULE 12 THIS WEEK. MAKE SURE YOU READ OVER EXPERIMENT 12.1 ON PAGE 373-374. WE WILL BE DISSECTING CRAYFISH THIS WEEK IN CLASS. ITS BENEFICIAL FOR YOU TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THE EXTERNAL/INTERNAL STRUCTURES BEFORE YOU COME TO CLASS.

FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 2

TAKE MODULE 11 TEST THIS WEEK. MAKE SURE YOU MEMORIZE THE EARTHWORM STRUCTURES BECAUSE YOU WILL SEE THIS AGAIN ON YOUR LAB FINAL. ALL OF MODULE 11 IS DUE THIS FRIDAY, INCLUDING YOUR EARTHWORM DISSECTION LAB REPORT. BEGIN MODULE 12 THIS WEEK. READ PG.361-375; OYO 364, 372; SGQ 2-9; DEFINITIONS A-F; MODULE SUMMARY 1-9. WE WILL HAVE A QUIZ IN CLASS FRIDAY. WE WILL POSTPONE OUR PERCH DISSECTION UNTIL MARCH 9.

JANUARY 29-Febrary 2

YOUR PAPER FOR MODULE 9 IS DUE THIS FRIDAY. IT WOULD BE HELPFUL IF IT WERE TYPED. KEEP IT SIMPLE. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A RESEARCH PAPER.

READ ALL OF MODULE 10 THIS WEEK. WE WILL COVER ALL OF MODULE 10 THIS WEEK. DO NOT DO THE MODULE SUMMARY. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT IS REQUIRED. ALL DEFINITIONS ARE REQUIRED. STUDY GUIDE QUESTIONS: 3,5,6,7,8,10,11,12,13,14,17,18.
ON YOUR OWN QUESTIONS: 10.1, 10.4, 10.7 , 10.8, 10.9, 10.11, 10.12
THERE WILL NOT BE A QUIZ THIS WEEK. I WILL PASS OUT A TEST THIS WEEK IN CLASS TO BE TAKEN AT HOME. ALL OF MODULE 10 WILL BE DUE FEB. 9
